Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your first Dorn Method session.

This form of manual therapy can be considered very safe indeed. There are no sudden thrust moves, no jerky manipulation and no heavy forces involved. All moves are carried out very gently and in full active co-operation and participation with the Dorn Method therapist. In fact, there have been no reported cases of injury throughout the long history of the Dorn Method.
In many cases two to three Dorn Method therapy sessions are sufficient initially. However, depending on individual circumstances, regular maintenance sessions may be recommended. After benefitting from Dorn therapy, you should ideally continue with self-help exercises recommended by your therapist for preventative care. Many clients find they need very few sessions before feeling significantly better.
No. The Dorn Method works together in harmony with the body, involving gentle manual techniques without the use of any medications. It is a completely natural, non-invasive therapy.

The Dorn Method is a distinctive, gentle approach to joint and spinal alignment. It works without force, with the client actively involved throughout the treatment. By using simple movements — such as swinging the arms, legs, or turning the head — the body helps guide itself back towards its natural alignment.

Corrections are applied with light, precise pressure and always in harmony with the body's movement, making the process feel calm, controlled, and supportive.

In comparison, chiropractic treatment often uses quick, precise movements to adjust the joints. These are short, controlled pushes that help bring the spine back into alignment, sometimes with a small amount of pressure applied more directly.

While both approaches aim to improve alignment and function, the Dorn Method is especially known for its gentle, cooperative, and non-forceful nature.

These exercises are very simple to carry out and should not prove difficult for anyone. It is completely safe to conduct these exercises once shown correctly by a Dorn practitioner. Please refer to the contraindications listed above and consult your GP if in any doubt.

It is better to perform these exercises more frequently — ideally daily, for just 2 minutes a day — than to do them too intensively in one session. Please consult your therapist for guidance tailored to your situation.

The exercises require no special equipment, clothing or venue. They can be performed anywhere, at any time. If you wish to perform a complete body alignment on a weekly basis, simply follow the techniques in order. If you have a specific problem such as neck pain, you can choose just the relevant exercise from the toolbox.

While the Dorn Method can be very beneficial for a wide range of individuals who experience back or joint pain or postural problems, it is especially appealing to those looking for a gentle, non-invasive approach. It avoids the high-velocity, low-amplitude thrusts used in chiropractic adjustments — which some might find less comfortable.

The Dorn Method also encourages self-correction through exercises, so you may find you need fewer actual therapy sessions compared to other approaches, where maintenance adjustments are often recommended indefinitely.

Many people who have tried osteopathy or chiropractic without significant relief have found great benefit through the Dorn Method — as can be seen from the large number of enthusiastic reviews in the testimonials section.
